Ohyea guys, I got a finalist in this contest. xD I'll be doing loads more professional contests next year because I got signed for BOTH advanced painting and advanced drawing.
So. This is finished for now.... I might fix a few details and I was thinking about putting sheet music in the background...but I'll save the sheet music idea from something else.
This is for a contest at my school. Pretty much everything in this is symbolic. Expect for the ladybug that's just there cause my friend wanted it to be. I colored this with copic then painted it with watercolor and went over the details in acrylic and colored pencils.
The background was painted with tea and then the leavesţs were made with tea mixed with a bit of acrylics.
Okay...I'm not good with these things. Only my second one, but here goes!
I really like the theme. Well the idea. I think you did a wonderful job on it, and it reflects the theme perfectly. Not only did you manage to portray the basic meaning, you even put a little depth behind it too (in my own opinion, everyone sees different things). I also like how you not only focused on books/marks/basics, but went and did a little deeper and decided to draw the branches. It could always symbolize the old age of knowledge and/or growth of it too.
The colours are magnificent. Yes they are plain, but that's what makes the art piece more magnificent. For me it seems to have an oldy touch, which relates to the theme of education being old. And it also adds a peacefulness to the image.
To top it all off, the butterfly is there. It's simple, but very elegant. As well, it seems to make the image complete in my mind. Though it may not relate to the topic itself (does it?), it adds a fullness to the art piece and ties the image together.
Overall I think you did a wonderful job! It's very beautiful, elegant, well planned and portrayed and also the theme/topic is clearly stated. A round of applause to you my dear friend. And good luck! May the people see through the paper and into the meaning of your work ~
